Management of Keys Policy

Essential Homecare Services do not take responsibility of service user’s keys. The following procedure is in place if a service user requires a key for staff to gain access to their home.

Arrange for a keypad to be installed
Combination to be set by next of kin and passed to staff who will need access
Care plan will state whether a keypad is in place and the combination
The key is to be returned to the keypad after each visit

If a service user refuses to install a keypad, then the following procedure is to be followed:

Name of the key holders
Address of the key holders
Emergency procedure discussed with service user and next of kin as to staff gaining entry if access cannot be gained
Emergency procedure included in care plan
